There are seven recreational centers in Macon.  These centers offer families summer activities, workshops, classes and sports.  Programs for senior citizens, physically challenged and mentally disabled citizens are also available.  There are over 75 public parks that are maintained in the city.  Macon has two public tennis facilities featuring 36 courts and three private clubs offering 26 courts to its members.  Six public swimming facilities offer classes and Macon also hosts 12 baseball/softball leagues, ranging from T-ball to teams for 18 year olds.

There are over 50 shopping centers offering virtually any product or service to suit your needs.   The Colonial Mall Macon has over 170 stores and is the only mall in the State with 6 anchor stores.

Health care facilities are comprehensive in Macon.  There are three major hospitals, one mental health hospital, and two sports medicine centers.  There is a physical rehabilitation hospital and a medical school clinic, plus 508 medical doctors and 93 dentists.  Furthermore, there are ten nursing homes in the area.

The Bibb County School System serves pre kindergarten through twelfth grade students throughout the city of Macon and Bibb County.  The school system is managed by an elected Bibb County Board of Education and an appointed Superintendent of Schools.
