Georgia Department of Labor Offering Resources for Federal Workers During Shutdown

By October 22, 2025No Comments

As the federal government shutdown continues, many of our neighbors, friends and colleagues are facing unexpected challenges. The Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with the Georgia Department of Labor, is working to ensure that every individual knows where to turn for support.

The Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) has mobilized statewide, ensuring that federal employees impacted by the shutdown have access to the resources they need to move forward with confidence. Whether you’re navigating a furlough or facing a change in employment status, help is available.

Unemployment Claims Made Simple

Federal employees can file for unemployment benefits online at dol.ga.gov or visit any of GDOL’s 34 career centers across Georgia.

Furloughed? Here’s What That Means

Furloughed employees are considered “job-attached,” meaning they are not required to search for work during the first six weeks following their last day worked.

Stay Connected

After submitting a claim, employees will receive a confirmation email with follow-up instructions. Be sure to check all folders, including spam and promotions.

Fast-Track Your Documentation

Respond immediately to GDOL’s request for federal claim forms by uploading them to the MyUI Claimant Portal. These documents help ensure your claim moves forward even if your federal employer doesn’t respond. More information is available on the GDOL website.

Track Your Progress

Once wages are verified, GDOL will issue a determination. You can monitor your claim status and payments at any time through the MyUI Claimant Portal.

Employment Status Changes

Federal employees who have already filed a claim due to being furloughed and experience a change in their employment status, such as being permanently laid off, should continue to file their weekly benefit claims as required. Any changes in employment status will be taken into account when determining continued eligibility for unemployment insurance benefits.
