Wrapping Up the 2024 Macon & Eggs Series: A Morning of Insight and Connection
The Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce recently wrapped up their 2024 Macon & Eggs series with an engaging and thought-provoking Federal edition. It was a fantastic gathering of community leaders, local elected officials, business professionals, and students who came together to discuss some of the most critical issues facing our region and the country.
The panel consisted of U.S. Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr. and U.S. Congressman Austin Scott, two powerful voices for Georgia at the federal level. Dr. Barbara Donovan, Professor of Political Science at Wesleyan College, moderated the event and guided the conversation with expertise and insight Their perspectives on today’s political landscape were eye-opening and provided plenty of food for thought.
The event brought together a diverse group of attendees, including Macon-Bibb Mayor Lester Miller, representatives from the offices of U.S. Congressmen Bishop and Scott, and local business leaders and students. Everyone brought an incredible energy to the room, eager to engage in meaningful discussions about the future of Middle Georgia.
The panelists’ conversation touched on several important issues affecting Central Georgia and the state, including the recent elections and their shared hopes for the future. A key topic of discussion was the Ocmulgee National Park and Preserve Initiative, as both recognized its potential cultural and economic impact on the state and the challenges facing the project.
Farmers in Georgia played a crucial role in the discussion, as both congressmen recognized the significant challenges faced by the agricultural community. They emphasized the need for continued support and bipartisan efforts in Congress to tackle these critical issues.
After the panel discussion, both congressmen took the time to answer questions from the audience and personally connect with attendees—one of the many reasons this event remains so valuable to our community.
We thank our Presenting sponsor, Prince Service & Manufacturing, and our Supporting Sponsors, the Community Foundation of Central Georgia, Servpro, Sheridan Construction, and Terracon, for making this event possible. Their support ensures that these critical conversations continue. We also want to thank Wesleyan College for hosting us in the beautiful Anderson Dining Hall.
The event’s discussion was a great reminder of how important it is to stay informed, engaged, and connected. From supporting Georgia’s farmers to advancing projects like the Ocmulgee National Park, a lot is happening in Middle Georgia, giving us reason to be hopeful about the future. We’re grateful to everyone who joined us and excited to keep these meaningful conversations going in the months ahead.
