A Legacy of Community Impact Since 1979

Founded in 1979 by Charles Jay and Bob Hatcher through the Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Macon began with a simple but powerful vision: bring together 25 emerging leaders from across Middle Georgia to build a stronger, more connected community.

Formally established as an association in 1984, Leadership Macon has welcomed a new class every year for over four decades. Today, it stands as one of the longest-running and most respected civic leadership programs in the state, with graduates actively shaping Macon-Bibb’s future across all sectors.

Advisory Board

Advisory Board Involvement

Applications to serve on the Advisory Board open in September each year. Leadership Macon alumni are encouraged to serve 1-year terms on the Advisory Board, which plays a key role in supports planning the class curriculum each year in partnership with Chamber staff. Advisory Board members work in 2-person teams to plan and lead a class day or special project. Serving on the board includes designing and executing the class day experience—from setting the theme and message to coordinating speakers, venues, and meals, as well as collaborating with Chamber staff, who assist with marketing, communications, vendor payments, and legacy info from previous years. Serving is a great way to give back, stay connected, and help shape the Leadership Macon experience for future classes.
